About this Event
Join us for our monthly Creative Book Club - a relaxed evening of books, conversation, tea and making.
This isn’t about analysing every chapter or having the “right” interpretation of a book. It’s simply an opportunity to read something together, share what we thought and use the book as inspiration to make something creative.
Each time we’ll choose a new book to read before meeting at the studio. We’ll sit down with a cup of tea, chat about what we read and then spend the second part of the evening making something inspired by the book.
This month’s book
The Samurai’s Garden by Gail Tsukiyama
Set in Japan in the 1930s, The Samurai’s Garden is a quiet story exploring friendship, love, loss, solitude and healing.
For our first Creative Book Club, we’ll have an informal conversation about the book over tea before creating our own collage inspired by the story - perhaps responding to its landscapes, gardens, colours, characters, feelings or something completely different that stayed with you.
You don’t need any art experience. The creative part is about responding to what you’ve read and enjoying the process.
Please read the book before the session. You don’t need to bring your own copy unless you’d like to.
Where to buy preowned: World of books or AwesomeBooks
Tea and all creative materials are included.
Hosted by Lille My Studio, the creative practice of Mathilde Hansen and a resident of House of Community.
Pay what you can tier: £8 / £10 / £12
We offer three ticket prices to make our workshops more accessible. Everyone receives the same workshop, materials and experience regardless of which ticket you choose.
Choose the price that feels manageable for you. If you are able to choose a higher-priced ticket, your contribution helps us keep lower-priced places available for others.
