Explore London's witch-ridden, pagan past with Maria Beadell, founder of Herstorical Tours.

Did you know that London has a long, dark history of witchcraft and persecution? Maria runs a highly popular immersive walking tour in London called Hex and the City which explores the history of London witches and their persecution from the early modern period up til the mid 20th century.

In this talk created especially for the Last Tuesday Society, Maria will give you a preview of the tour by introducing some of the forgotten women that were branded as witches, and an overview of the history of the 'witch craze', both in London and beyond. How and why did it start, who were targeted? and what were the consequences? Expert live performances to bring this talk to life and provide a unique look at the 'herstory' of London witches.

Maria Beadell is a tour guide, writer, performer, storyteller and history enthusiast born and raised in London. She spent many years teaching before deciding to pursue her passion of becoming a tour guide. From there she founded Herstorical Tours which encompasses all of her interests and skills: performing, hidden histories, feminism and even a bit of the occult.

Created and led by women only, Herstorical Tours focus on women's stories in London's history and bring those stories to life using acting, comedy and fun! With a special focus on the dark and curious underbelly of London's past - they explore the hidden nooks and crannies of the city whilst introducing you to the women that created 'herstory' here - from witches to harlots.

The Absinthe Parlour at The Last Tuesday Society is London’s best award-winning alternative cocktail bar hidden within The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities. A drinker’s cabinet of wonder filled curious cocktails & extraordinary elixirs —The Last Tuesday Society’s Absinthe Parlour is truly a hidden treasure of East London. Opened by collectors, drinks historians & absinthe experts — Allison Crawbuck (Brooklyn) & Rhys Everett (London) in 2016, the duo bring with them a shared passion for the mysterious world of spirits & the macabre.
