Speaker - Tony Travers, Director of British Government at LSE
Tony is Director of British Government at LSE and Co-director of LSE London and has key research interests in public finance, local, regional and London government.
Recently an adviser to the House of Commons Education Select Committee and the Communities and Local Government Select Committee, he is a research board member of the Centre for Cities and of the New Local Government Network.
Tony is an honorary member of CIPFA and from 1992 to 1997 he was a member of the Audit Commission. He is the author of a number of books including Failure in British Government: The Politics of the Poll Tax (with David Butler and Andrew Adonis), Paying for Health, Education and Housing: How does the Centre Pull the Purse Strings (with Howard Glennerster and John Hills) and The Politics of London: Governing the Ungovernable City. He also broadcasts and writes for the national media.
