With Berlin Alexanderplatz, CineZeit presents a contemporary reinterpretation of Alfred Döblin's renowned novel. The film follows Francis, a refugee from Guinea-Bissau, who arrives in Berlin determined to build a new life. Committed to becoming a good person, he tries to find his place in his new home. However, the challenges of everyday life and his encounter with the charismatic yet ruthless Reinhold gradually draw him into a world of temptation, dependency, and moral conflict.
Director Burhan Qurbani relocates the literary classic to present-day Berlin, creating a visually stunning and emotionally compelling drama about belonging, exclusion, friendship, and the search for identity. Through its powerful cinematography and immersive storytelling, the film offers a fresh perspective on one of the most significant works of German literature.
