About this Event
What you'll do Come along and learn the basics of hand-building with one of our expert tutors at Cultivate Artist Studio during this ceramics taster workshop in London. We are running these three Thursday evening ceramic taster sessions this Autumn to introduce ourselves and the studio to you, each with a different focus, you will be taught by experienced artists in a working ceramics art studio.
29th October - Pinched forms - Antonio Fois
12th November - Coiled forms - Ella Porter
26th November - Soft slab forms - Tana West
With each focus you’ll learn how to shape clay in different ways by hand, creating your own unique piece to take home once it has been glazed and fired.
Whether you are a total beginner or looking to get back to clay, this introductory ceramics session is a gentle and welcoming way to learn in a supportive environment. You do not need any previous experience!
What to expect:
A short demonstration from the tutor covering the hand-building techniques.
Work with clay using your hands and simple tools, discovering how an uncomplicated technique can become a satisfying and expressive creative process.
Guidance on how to shape and develop your own forms.
Time to explore and make with clay.
One piece of work fired as part of the cost of your class.
Your work glazed and fired for you, with a message when it is ready to collect.
Your finished piece will be glazed and fired for you, giving you something personal and handmade to take home. If you make additional pieces you’d like to keep, these can be paid for separately as part of our community firing scheme. Additional clay costs are calculated on the weight and size of your pieces.
This is the perfect way to experience our studio before our full workshop series begins in 2027. You’ll leave with a new understanding of how to work with clay, the encouragement to continue creating, and a unique ceramic piece made by you.
