About this Event
Can a Happy Meal box make you cry? Yes, it can.
We saw Cartas del Abuelo in Mexico in a theatre filled with 500 children. By the end, they were crying—and so were we.A sweet cry.
This March Break, Puppet Festival Mississauga brings that same moving performance to local audiences.
Don Miguel holds on to his memories through letters, photographs and everyday objects. As his memory fades, these keepsakes connect him to the people and moments he loves. Simple things carry the weight of a whole life: someone remembered, a moment shared, a relationship that still matters.
Created and performed by Freddy Alfaro Domínguez of Mexico’s Compañía Factor Teatro, Cartas del Abuelo uses puppetry and object theatre to tell a tender story about family, memory and connection. Freddy turns familiar objects—including a Happy Meal box—into characters and moments that stay with you long after the performance.
Some shows make us laugh. Others bring us to tears. This one reminded us how deeply theatre can make us care.
For parents and grandparents choosing a family activity, Cartas del Abuelo offers time together and a story that can open up conversations about your own family memories. It’s a children’s activity that brings fun and education together through imaginative theatre and an emotional story.
Tickets make a thoughtful birthday gift or an affordable Christmas gift for someone you’d like to share a theatre outing with. Bring them to this family event and experience a performance that moved us enough to bring it to Mississauga.
