About this Event
Get ready to laugh!
This March Break, join puppeteer Ayhan Hulagu for Karagöz, a lively Turkish shadow puppet performance at Puppet Festival Mississauga.
Behind an illuminated screen, colourful handcrafted characters take over with playful adventures, silly surprises and plenty of humour. Ayhan performs this solo show by bringing the puppets’ movements and personalities together, continuing a storytelling tradition that has entertained generations.
Karagöz was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. This performance gives families a chance to enjoy that living tradition in person—and see how much expression can come from light, colour and a carefully moved puppet.
After the 40-minute performance, stay for 20 minutes to meet Ayhan, take photos and see the puppets up close. Look at their moving parts, ask questions and learn how the characters work behind the screen.
For parents and grandparents planning a children’s activity, this family event combines fun and education with a good laugh. Children can enjoy the performance, then get a closer look at the craftsmanship and technique behind it.
Tickets make a thoughtful birthday gift or an affordable Christmas gift for someone who enjoys live theatre. Add this family activity to your March Break plans and share an hour of shadow puppetry, humour and time with the artist.
