An intimate classical guitar recital with Edinburgh-based musician Stephen Morrison, inspired by his lifelong admiration for Frank Lloyd Wright and the 90th anniversary of Fallingwater. An evening exploring the connections between music, architecture and nature at RIAS Headquarters in Edinburgh.
Stephen Morrison
A lifelong admirer of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Stephen brings a personal connection to one of modern architecture’s most celebrated landmarks: Fallingwater, Wright’s extraordinary house built over a waterfall in Pennsylvania. As Fallingwater marks its 90th anniversary in 2026, Stephen has recently returned to Edinburgh after playing in recitals at this iconic building as part of celebrations honouring its legacy as a masterpiece of modern architecture and a powerful expression of art and nature in harmony.
Born in Uniontown, Ohio, Stephen studied guitar performance at the renowned Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He went on to become a guitar instructor at the Conservatory, continuing a distinguished musical journey that brought him to Scotland.
Now based in Edinburgh, Stephen divides his time between teaching and performing, appearing in solo recitals and alongside other musicians in chamber and orchestral settings.
Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright
For Stephen, a visit to Fallingwater is almost a pilgrimage. Having first travelled there as a student, he has returned many times over the years, inspired by Wright’s artistic vision, his evolving architectural theories and his profound relationship with the natural world. This special recital offers an opportunity to experience classical guitar in the spirit of that same creative dialogue between art, place and nature that Frank Lloyd Wright existed within. The recital is a kind of musical biography of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Stephen will share his experiences of the building in a discussion with Kevin Cooper of the architectural practice Norr and there will be a chance to ask questions as well.
Doors open 6.30pm for refreshments. Event starts at 7pm.
