The Gatchelville Cut-ups

October’s Bluegrass Night featured the fantastic mandolin playing and delightfully witty repartee of Wood Flower's Quentin Fisher. He returns for the next Bluegrass Night as part of The Gatchelville Cut-ups for another evening of great bluegrass at the Black Squirrel Club!

Marc Silver

Marc Silver is a Philadelphia-based songwriter, guitarist, and mandolinist whose work blends the traditions of American folk, bluegrass, old-time music, jazz, and blues into songs that explore memory, love, history, and mortality. Influenced as much by literature as by music, his writing seeks to uncover the extraordinary within ordinary lives, weaving intimate personal stories with broader questions of family, place, and the passage of time.

We'll be celebrating the release of his latest album, The Dark of Our Hymn, a collection of songs that reflect on ancestry, queer love, grief, faith, and the stories we inherit. Rich with lyrical detail and acoustic textures, the record continues Marc's lifelong pursuit of songs that are both deeply personal and universally human.A graduate of the jazz program at The University of the Arts, Marc began writing songs in 2005 and has since released eight albums of original music as both a solo artist and with his longtime band, The Stonethrowers.

The Stonethrowers (Marc’s String Band)

Blending original compositions with the rich traditions of string band, Americana, and bluegrass music, The Stonethrowers began their journey in January 2007 with the release of their debut album, Stonethrowers. Since then, they’ve remained a constant in Marc’s musical evolution, contributing to a series of heartfelt and dynamic recordings. The band brings together a passion for both original and traditional songs, weaving in elements of country, jazz, old-time, Balkan, and even the occasional pop tune. A Stonethrowers show feels like an evening in a close friend’s living room—relaxed, familiar, and full of character. The smoky sweetness of Marc’s, Mike’s, Bobby’s, Willy’s, and Matt’s voices evokes the warmth of a good bourbon, while their easy banter and Isaac’s sharp wit create a sense of genuine connection with the audience.

With high-energy performances, tight three-part harmonies, and a compelling stage presence, The Stonethrowers deliver an experience that’s both musically rich and memorably intimate.

They’ve shared the stage with artists such as Béla Fleck, Jerry Douglas, The Seldom Scene, Sierra Hull, The Mavericks, LeAnn Rimes, Shawn Mullins, Chuck Prophet, Vienna Teng, Moe, and more.
