About this Event
Sonje and Sheila Anozier take over Berimbau 2nd Floor with jazz, blues and Afro-Latin rythms.
Haitian-American vocalist and multidisciplinary artist Sheila Anozier joins Brooklyn-based Spanish-Australian guitarist, composer, and bandleader Francisco David Ferreiro for an evening weaving Haitian musical traditions with jazz, blues, and Afro-Latin rhythms.
Rooted in Haiti’s rich artistic heritage, Sheila has performed on stages around the world, including the Hanoi Opera House, Nuits Atypiques de Langon in France, Lincoln Center, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, The Joyce Theater, and The Hague Holland Dance festival in the Netherlands.
Drawing on lullabies and stories from Sheila’s childhood in Haiti, the evening unfolds as a musical journey following a young girl as she encounters the characters who inhabit these songs. Voice, guitar, and percussion bring this world to life through storytelling, musical compositions, and improvisation. Joining them are Haitian percussionist Tigayo “Tiga” Baptiste, bassist Michael Bates, and Emmy-winning drummer Alejandro “Alex” Garcia.
