About this Event

Workshop Summary

Autumn Reflections is a 10-week mixed-media art series that invites participants to explore creativity through accessible art practices inspired by the changing season. Using techniques such as textile collage, alcohol inks, acrylic painting, journaling, and mixed-media assemblage, participants will reflect on themes of gratitude, resilience, belonging, and personal growth. Each workshop encourages creative exploration, mindfulness, and community in a supportive, judgment-free environment.

Participants will:

● Learn a variety of accessible mixed-media art techniques.

● Build creative confidence through hands-on exploration.

● Reflect on themes of change, gratitude, and self-expression.

● Strengthen community through shared creative experiences.

● Create meaningful artwork while supporting their mental wellness.

Week 1 – Repurposed Journal Collage: "The Story Continues"

Transform a discarded journal into a mixed-media art journal using collage, paint, fabric, and meaningful words.

Reflection Prompt: What chapter of your life are you writing this season?

Week 2 – Alcohol Ink Autumn Leaves: "Changing Colours"

Create vibrant autumn leaves using alcohol inks while exploring the beauty of transformation and embracing change.

Reflection Prompt: What are you ready to let go of to make room for something new?

Week 3 – Intro to Textile Art: "Threads of Belonging"

Layer African fabrics, paint, and collage to create a mixed-media artwork celebrating home, family, and community.

Reflection Prompt: Who or what helps you feel rooted?

Week 4 – Acrylic Squeezy Art: "Finding Balance"

Experiment with flowing acrylic paint and a squeegee to discover beauty in movement and unpredictability.

Reflection Prompt: Where can you allow yourself to trust the process?

Week 5 – Autumn Reflections Mixed-Media Canvas: “Harvesting Gratitude”

Create a layered mixed-media canvas using paint, collage, handmade papers, African fabrics, and natural textures to celebrate your personal journey through the changing seasons.

Reflection Prompt: Looking back on this year, what are you most grateful for, and what do you hope to carry into the next season of your life?

Week 6 – Acrylic Dot Art: "Quiet Moments"

Create peaceful autumn landscapes one dot at a time.

Reflection Prompt: When was the last time you allowed yourself to slow down and simply be present? What helps you find moments of peace in your everyday life?

Week 7 – Textile Keepsake Box: "Treasured Memories"

Transform a keepsake box using African fabrics and embellishments.

Reflection Prompt: What memory, tradition, or small treasure would you like to preserve and carry with you into the future?

Week 8 – Bleeding Tissue Paper: "Autumn Skies"

Explore flowing colour inspired by changing autumn skies.

Reflection Prompt: Like the colours blending across the sky, life is always changing. How have you grown through change, and what beauty have you discovered along the way?

Week 9 – Paper Bowls: "Gathering Abundance"

Create decorative bowls symbolizing gratitude, nourishment, and gathering.

Reflection Prompt: What fills your cup? Think about the people, places, experiences, or simple moments that nourish your mind, body, and spirit.

Week 10 – Community Textile Quilt: "Our Shared Harvest"

Each participant creates an individual textile square reflecting their journey through the series. The squares are temporarily assembled into a community quilt for sharing and celebration before everyone takes their piece home.

Reflection Prompt: How has your creativity grown, and what will you carry with you from this journey?
