Get ready for an exhilarating evening of jazz, funk, fusion, groove, and musical adventure as the Attila Fias Jazz Groove Project takes the stage at the Victoria Truth Centre for an unforgettable live performance.
Led by acclaimed pianist and composer Attila Fias, this dynamic six-piece ensemble features some of the Canada’s most exceptional jazz musicians:
Attila Fias — piano & synth
Peter Dowse — electric bass
Kelby MacNayr — drums & percussion
Miguelito Valdez — percussion
Barrie Sorensen — saxes & flute
Wes Carroll — guitar
Together, this sextet creates an expansive sound filled with rich textures, intricate rhythms, deep grooves and plenty of room for musical spontaneity. This past spring, the group performed together at Hermann’s Jazz Club, where they played to a sold out crowd and great acclaim—and they’re bringing that same energy, chemistry and love of the music to the Victoria Truth Centre!
A Musical Journey
The evening will explore the extraordinary music of two legendary pianists and composers: Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.
The band will move through classic jazz from their early eras, then dive into the funky, fusion-driven and groove-based music that helped define their groundbreaking careers. The musical journey will also venture into Indian jazz-fusion inspired by John McLaughlin, along with a few original compositions from Attila Fias.
With six musicians on stage, the Jazz Groove Project is able to create a rich and dynamic musical landscape—layering keyboards, guitar, bass, percussion, drums, saxophones and flute into an evening filled with rhythm, texture and unexpected turns.
As Attila puts it, “This show will have you dancing in your seat…we will take you on a musical ride with us through a spectrum of emotion.”
