About this Event
Local Jerrabomberra artist Jenny Sheppard will give an artist's talk about her painting exhibition Beyond Clear Waters - Paintings of Queanbeyan & Beyond , exploring themes of place and memory, on display in the LinQ Gallery from September 29 - November 27. Learn more about Jenny's practice, and delve into the inspiration she takes from landscapes, streets homes and people of Canberra, Queanbeyan, the South Coast and beyond.
Clear Waters is the English translation of the traditional Ngarigo Aboriginal peoples' word for Queanbeyan, a place that has been an important part of Jenny Sheppard’s life and artistic journey. Although her paintings begin with the real world, they are not simply records of what she sees. Jenny’s work is both realistic and metaphoric, shaped by memory and enlarged by imagination. Familiar places can shift, colours can evoke a feeling rather than a particular moment, and ordinary scenes become something more personal. Beyond Clear Waters - Paintings of Queanbeyan & Beyond) brings together Jenny’s enduring connection to the region with her fascination for the way memory and imagination can transform the familiar.
This exhibition & talk forms part of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Arts Trail.
