About this Event
Kirsty Dixon will give an artist's talk about her painting exhibition No tourists ~ If you live here, you’re from here, celebrating Queanbeyan, regional Australia and the dignity of everyday life on display in the Rusten House Reading Room Gallery from September 26 - November 14.
Working in oils, Kirsty uses saturated colour, movement, and humour to find simple delight in the everyday. From parkruns to pubs, the exhibition celebrates ordinary routines and community life. Echoing William Morris’s idea of art as an expression of joy, her work embraces hope, affection, and connection — at a time when negativity can dominate the public sphere, choosing joy can feel like a radical act.
Kirsty will discuss the stories behind the paintings, her creative process, and her own creative and healing journey.
This talk forms part of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Arts Trail.
