About this Event

Adding life to years. Creating opportunity for generations to come.

An evening celebrating the legacy of Alf Morris and looking ahead to the future of disability equality.

You are warmly invited to join us for The Unfinished Act, the Alf Morris Disability Lecture at The University of Manchester.

Alf Morris, a pioneering Manchester MP, had an ambitious vision of a society in which disabled people could participate fully, contribute their talents and enjoy genuine equality of opportunity. One of Alf’s most powerful ambitions was for a society: “…where, if years cannot be added to the lives of the chronically sick, at least life can be added to their years…”

His vision helped change lives and shape disability rights in Britain and beyond. It also left future generations with an important challenge: How do we keep building on that progress as society, technology and opportunity continue to change?

The Unfinished Act celebrates that enduring vision and looks confidently towards what comes next. The lecture will be delivered by Kate Nash OBE, leading disability rights campaigner, founder of PurpleSpace, optimist, writer and advocate for disability inclusion in the workplace. There will also be an opportunity to connect with Disabled People’s Organisations who will also be showcasing their work at this event.

Together, we will explore how we can go further and better, removing barriers, embracing innovation and creating the conditions in which disabled people can participate, contribute and thrive.

We will open the doors at 6pm when there will be an opportunity to speak to the Disabled Peoples Organisations.

The lecture will start at 6.30pm. If you are booking tickets for the livestream please log on 5 minutes before.

The lecture and livestream will end at 7.30pm when those who have attended in person will have a further opportunity to connect with the Disabled Peoples Organisations, network and get a drink.
