About this Event
AI can help council officers work more efficiently, but local government has responsibilities that generic AI training often overlooks.
Records, privacy, information handling, and public trust all matter when AI is used in council work. This practical half-day workshop helps local government officers understand how to use AI within these responsibilities, with a focus on everyday tasks rather than technical theory.
You will work through realistic council scenarios, practise using AI to draft and check documents, and learn how to build simple safeguards into your workflow.
Who this is for
This session is designed for:
- Local government customer service officers
- Records and information management officers
- Planning and development officers
- Governance and administration teams
- Council staff exploring responsible AI integration
What we will do together
- Understand AI in the council context: Explore how AI use intersects with recordkeeping, privacy obligations under the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA), and community expectations.
- Practise safe customer service use: Work through realistic counter and inbox scenarios and identify when AI assistance is appropriate and when it is not.
- Draft and check council documents: Use AI to support a council-style document using fictional content, then apply a clear review and verification process.
- Build your officer-level checklist: Turn what you learn into a practical checklist you can use in your day-to-day work.
What you will take home
- A Council AI Safe-Use Checklist
- A completed Draft-and-Verify Document Exercise
- An Officer-Level AI Integration Checklist
Good to know
Please bring your laptop for the practical activities. You may bring examples of general council workflows or documents that are suitable for learning, but do not use confidential, personal, or sensitive information during the session. No technical background is required. This is a practical professional development workshop focused on responsible AI use within local government work.

Refund, Cancellation and Transfer Policy
1) Your legal rights: Our services come with guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. Nothing in this policy limits them. This policy applies to tickets for this event only.
2) If we cancel or materially change the event: If we cancel this event, or change its date, content, format or delivery mode so materially that it no longer meets your reasonable needs, you can choose either:
(a) a full refund of the total you paid, including Eventbrite fees, to your original payment method; or
(b) a transfer to a later event of your choice.
We do not deduct any fee from these refunds. Minor changes, such as a substitute presenter, a running-order change, or a different room at the same venue, do not entitle you to a refund under this clause. If you think a change is material, email and we will decide within 5 business days. We will give reasons if we decline, and your legal rights are unaffected.
3) If you cannot attend: Tickets are non-refundable for change of mind. If you tell us at least 14 days before the event, you may move your ticket once to another session, subject to availability. It has no cash value.
4) Transferring your ticket to another person: You may transfer your ticket to another person up to 7 days before the event, by emailing with the new attendee’s name and email, or via Eventbrite’s transfer tool where enabled. Tickets must not be resold for more than you paid. We set this cut-off because we confirm final attendee numbers with the venue and caterer, and prepare name badges and course materials, 7 days before each event.
5) No-show or leaving early: No refund or credit is available if you do not attend or leave part-way through, except as required by law.
6) Refund requests: Email with your name, order number and the clause you rely on. We acknowledge requests within 5 business days and decide them within 10 business days. Approved refunds go to the original payment method and normally appear within 5 to 10 business days.
7) Conduct: We may refuse entry or remove an attendee who endangers others or seriously disrupts the event. No refund is due for that. This does not limit your legal rights.
8) Tickets sold through Eventbrite: Eventbrite processes tickets. Its refund tools and terms apply in addition to this policy, and we will honour the rights set out here. For advisory, training or consulting under a separate written agreement, that agreement’s terms apply together with clauses 1 and 2.
(Free events: use the same text, but remove “including Eventbrite fees” from clause 2, and remove the session-transfer sentence from clause 3 if tickets cannot be moved)
