About this Event

After the Summit: What’s Next for US–China Relations – A Conversation with Chow Chung-yan, Editor-in-Chief of South China Morning Post, is organized in partnership with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York (HKETONY) and SCMP Plus, and supported by the Hong Kong Association of New York (HKANY).

Join us for a timely conversation with Chow Chung-yan on the evolving US–China relationship following the latest summit between the two countries’ leaders on September 24, 2026. Drawing on his extensive experience covering China and international affairs, Chung-yan will share his perspectives on the key takeaways from the summit, what they may mean for bilateral relations, and the issues to watch in the months ahead.

The discussion will be moderated by James Heimowitz, Former President of the China Institute in America and Senior Advisor to SCMP.

The event will take place on October 6, 2026 (Tuesday) from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York (115 East 54th Street, New York, NY 10022).

Brown bag lunch will be served.


About Chow Chung-yan

Chow Chung-yan is Editor-in-Chief of the South China Morning Post, overseeing editorial strategy, newsroom operations, product design and subscription growth. Beginning as an intern in 1998, he served as Executive Editor for a decade and has directed the paper’s China coverage since 2007 — establishing it as a leading global source on China. He led the newsroom’s digital transformation and international expansion, setting up offices in the US, Brussels and Nairobi. Under his leadership, the SCMP launched the award-winning premium news product SCMP Plus and the popular interview series Open Questions with global thought leaders. He is also a regular columnist and speaker on Sino-US affairs.
