The Doctoral Theatre Students' Association invites you to celebrate the 2026 Booth Award Ceremony on Tuesday, October 6th at 12pm. Each year, the student body of the Theatre and Performance Program at the Graduate Center, CUNY votes on a New York City artist or collective whose career has made a definitive impact on the city's rich and variegated theatre and performance cultures. This year's honoree is artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles, whose extensive and multifaceted career includes being the first Artist-In-Residence at the New York City Sanitation Department in 1977. For over 50 years, Mierle's work has engaged pressing questions regarding urban life, sustainability and renewal, and the quest to find a more generative and inhabitable relationship to our environment.
This hybrid ceremony will include a Q and A between Mierle (on Zoom) and documentarian Toby Perl Freilich (in-person). Freilich's 2025 documentary Maintenance Artist charts the impressive trajectory and scope of Mierle's artistic legacy. Lunch and refreshments will be served with fellowship following the Q and A.
The Booth Award Ceremony is FREE and open to the public. The location of the ceremony is the Skylight Room (rm 9100) on the 9th floor of the Graduate Center at 365 5th Ave, NY, NY, 10016.
