On October 10, 2026, ¡MASH-UP! Multigender/Multiworld invites you to Ausland Berlin for ¡MASH-UP! | São Paulo Connections: an evening as an encounter between the queer-feminist punk and post-punk scenes of Berlin and São Paulo. What has lived on in both cities for decades is strengthened here through exchange.
¡MASH-UP! Multigender/Multiworld was founded in 2011 on a self-built truck at the queer „Transgenialer CSD“ demonstration in Kreuzberg. A handful of BIPoC and migrant FLINTA* based in Berlin came together, longing for queer-feminist perspectives from the Global South in Berlin's party scene. Since 2016, the collective has run its namesake party series and has since brought over 70 artists from Europe, Africa, Asia, and North and Latin America to the stage.
MERCENÁRIAS ARE COMING TO BERLIN!
At the heart of the evening: the legendary Brazilian post-punk band Mercenárias. Founded in São Paulo in 1982, the band was one of the first queer-feminist formations in a scene that was, at the time, almost exclusively male, and remains one of the most important bands of the Brazilian underground scene to this day. Thanks to the support of the Goethe-Institut, Mercenárias are coming to Berlin and will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album „Cadê as Armas?“ at Ausland – as part of their 40th-anniversary tour, which they will have already played at the ¡MASH-UP! anniversary party at SO36 (Oct 2).
The evening opens with a live presentation of the pieces created earlier that day in a workshop led by Sandra Coutinho, founding member, bassist and singer of Mercenárias – here the workshop link:
CONCERTS AND CLUB NIGHT
Concerts follow by M.i.p.V, the instrumental guitar-and-drums duo of German-Brazilian guitarist Laura.aLL – usually touring with different drummers, this evening she is joined behind the kit by Pitchu Ferraz, who also drums for Mercenárias – as well as by Restless, the Brazilian-Australian noisy punk duo of Adriessa Souza (Anti-Corpos) and Eilis Frawley. The night closes with the performance of Mercenárias.
A nice detail: Adriessa Souza (Restless) and Mercenárias guitarist Mari Crestani are already planning to record together. The exchange between Berlin and São Paulo reaches well beyond this one evening.
Afterwards, the party keeps going with a DJ set by The Lion – Marie Leão's alias, playing indie, queer pop and alternative rock.
The event takes place as part of the Festivalwoche of Berlin's Tag der Clubkultur.
