About this Event
Explore the film script as a collaborative multi-media document in a talk on writing for film. Using examples from carefully chosen shooting scripts, this interactive talk will explain some of the standard terminology and shorthand of the screenplay and show how good screenwriters leave gaps for their future collaborators to fill. A screenplay therefore requires that we read ‘between the lines’ and use our creativity and imagination to complete the picture. This is for those interested in film and writing for the screen and will help you understand the relationship between the film script, production methods, and collaborative ways of working in the creative economies. This event will take place at Water’s Edge on the City Quay and is open to the public.
This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 5-14th November 2026. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
