About this Event
Most people have heard of Bonnie Prince Charlie, but hidden in the shadows of the Jacobite story lies Angus, whose people helped shape its most dramatic chapters. Join Emma Gilliland, curator of the exhibition Tartan & Turmoil: The Angus Jacobite Story, as she shares varied stories from The Earl Who Lost Everything, to The Ogilvy Gamble, and The Last Jacobite. Hear about the deep divisions that scarred the people of Angus, and about the bustling port of Montrose, once branded ‘the most disloyal and disaffected town in Scotland’ through which gold, weapons, and secret reinforcements slipped across the sea from Europe to fuel the rising.
Emma Gilliland is Museums & Galleries Collections Lead for ANGUSalive Museums & Galleries which manages Arbroath Signal Tower Museum, Forfar Meffan Museum & Art Gallery, and Montrose Museum. She studied at St Andrews and Leicester and has previously worked in curatorial roles for the National Trust and The Devil’s Porridge Museum.
The talk takes place in Lecture Theatre 2, Dalhousie Building, University of Dundee. Non-members are welcome - donations requested.
