About this Event
Argentine wine is full of surprises.
Travel up into the Andes and the scenery changes by the mile, from dusty desert to poplar-lined vineyards, with snow-capped peaks always on the horizon. The wines change with it: one glass is fresh and floral, the next deep and powerful, another sweet enough to end the night on. It's a country that rewards anyone willing to look a little closer.
This November, we're bringing a taste of it to Humble Grape by exploring wines from Vinyes Ocults in Mendoza.
Mendoza is Argentina's wine heartland. It's home to most of the country's wineries and some of its finest Malbec. The region sits at the foot of the Andes, where hot high-desert days ripen the grapes fully and chilly nights keep everything fresh and lively.
About the Wines
Vinyes Ocults began in 2007 in a garage in Godoy Cruz, Mendoza. Its first 400-litre batch was snapped up within two months. The name means "hidden vineyards" in Catalan, which suits it well, because the plots Tomás works with are tucked away behind rows of tall poplar trees. Today his wines come from the Uco Valley, high in the foothills of the Andes.
What to expect
At this two-hour tasting, we'll follow the Andes across Mendoza, from crisp sparkling and fragrant Viognier to bold, structured Malbec and a sweet Torrontés to finish. Our wine team will be your guides. They'll pour six wines, starting with a welcome glass of Philippe Gonet Champagne, and share the stories behind the vineyards, the terroir and the people who make it all happen. Malbec fan or Argentine wine first-timer, there's a seat at the table for you.
