Over two days, participants in this class will collectively build a 25 sq ft cone 10 fast-fire wood-soda kiln. After a brief introduction to kiln building basics and dissecting the detailed plans for this particular kiln, participants are invited to actively engage in the kiln building process, including brick cutting and laying, arch building, welding, and casting custom components. Guided in a step-by-step process, participants will collectively reflect and inquire on the significance of each step in the building process.
Participants will have space for personal ceramics pieces in the first firing of the kiln. (Date to be determined.)
This class will meet at the Ely Folk School, but take place at the instructor's private residence on Eagle's Nest (~20 minutes away.) Please come prepared with work clothing, personal protective equipment, and food and water for the day.
