A practical, evidence-informed exploration of the physical, hormonal, and lifestyle changes women experience through perimenopause and menopause. This lecture combines peer-reviewed scientific research with real-world, anecdotal experiences to help women better understand what is happening in their bodies—and, more importantly, what they can do about it.
Topics include hormonal fluctuations, changes in body composition, muscle and strength, bone health, sleep, energy, mood, cardiovascular health, menstrual changes, hot flashes, sexual and urinary health, and exercise. We’ll also explore nutrition, recovery, stress management, and the role of strength training in maintaining health and independence as estrogen levels change. Regular weight-bearing and resistance exercise are specifically recommended for maintaining bone and muscle health during this transition.
The lecture will also address menopausal hormone therapy (MHT/HRT), including what the current evidence actually says about benefits, risks, timing, routes of administration, and who may or may not be an appropriate candidate. Current evidence recognizes hormone therapy as the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms and as beneficial for preventing bone loss, while emphasizing individualized decision-making.
