Join us for the Women’s Health Book Club to chat, learn, and support each other in person!Women’s Health Book Club
Come for the book. Bring something for the table. Stay for the conversation.
Hey ladies!
I’m starting an in-person Women’s Health Book Club — a relaxed, supportive gathering where we can read, learn, talk openly about women’s health and explore what we discover together.
Every two weeks, you’re invited to mine.
This isn't about racing through a book so we can say we've finished it. We’ll take our time, work through a manageable section between each gathering and then come together to talk about it.
What did you learn?
What surprised you?
What made you think, Why did nobody ever tell me this about my body?
What didn't make sense?
And is there anything you've read that you'd actually like to try putting into practice?
You don't have to be a bookworm, know lots about women's health or even have finished all the reading.
This is book club, not school.
If life gets in the way and you haven't read the whole section, come anyway.
BOOK ONE
Heal Pelvic Pain — Amy Stein, M.P.T.
Our first book explores pelvic health and the different ways pelvic pain can affect the body and everyday life.
When I read the introduction, I immediately wanted to know more.
I've already dipped into different parts of the book and put some of what I've learnt into practice, which I have personally found beneficial. But I've also realised that this isn't necessarily the sort of book you simply read from page one to the end.
It's a book to work through.
There are explanations, exercises, instructions and different areas to explore. The information isn't always linear, and there are things you may want to practise, revisit and discuss.
That's when I thought:
Why work through it alone?
So rather than this becoming another useful health book that sits half-read on the bookshelf, let's actually get through it together.
We'll take it section by section, giving ourselves time to understand what we're reading and discuss what we're discovering along the way.
Pelvic health can touch so many areas of women's lives — including movement, comfort, bladder and bowel health, intimacy, menopause, recovery after surgery and our relationship with our changing bodies.
You don't have to be experiencing pelvic pain to join us. You may simply be curious about pelvic health and want to understand this part of the female body better.
WHAT HAPPENS AT BOOK CLUB?
Each gathering will be a mixture of reading, discussion, sharing, learning and socialising .
We'll talk about the section we've been reading, share our thoughts and experiences if we want to, ask questions and explore some of the ideas raised by the book.
There may be personal subjects discussed, so this is intended to be a respectful and confidential space.
What is shared in the group stays in the group.
And you are never expected to disclose anything about your body, health or personal experiences that you would rather keep private.
This is a social and educational book club rather than medical treatment, and our discussions are not a substitute for individual advice, diagnosis or treatment from an appropriate healthcare professional.
BRING SOMETHING FOR THE TABLE
Because this is the in-person book club, I want it to feel like more than simply sitting around discussing chapters.
I want us to gather.
So please bring a little something to contribute to the table — perhaps a dish, some fruit, snacks, cake, nibbles or a drink to share.
Nothing elaborate and you don't need to feed everyone!
We'll put everything together and share what we've brought.
It helps me keep the cost of running the gathering down, but it also makes the book club more social and helps us create a sense of community as we eat, chat and delve into the subjects raised by the book.
WHAT TO BRING
Your copy of Heal Pelvic Pain A dish or drink to share A notebook and pen if you like making notes Whatever helps you feel comfortable Curiosity Your thoughts, questions and discoveries
And, of course...
yourself.
Even if you haven't done all the reading.
EVERY TWO WEEKS
We'll meet at mine every two weeks , gradually making our way through the book together.
And Heal Pelvic Pain is only the beginning.
This is Book One of the Women’s Health Book Club .
Once we've finished, we'll choose another book and continue exploring the subjects that affect women's bodies and lives — from pelvic health, menopause and hormones to sleep, ageing, sexuality, healing, wellbeing and whatever else gets us talking.
One book at a time. Together.
So, let's get started.
