About this Event

Wex Photo Video and Sony are delighted to welcome professional portrait photographer Tom Oldham to Wex Photo Video Whitechapel. Across three seminar sessions, Tom will share his approach to creating powerful, character-led portraits, offering customers a rare opportunity to learn from one of the UK’s most distinctive contemporary portrait photographers.

Tom is a London-based portrait photographer known for photographing musicians, sports stars and creative talent across the UK and internationally. He is also a proud Sony Ambassador, bringing a deep understanding of Sony Alpha equipment into his professional practice. His career includes major portrait projects, editorial work and award-winning personal projects. Tom was named Sony World Open Photographer of the Year 2020 for his portrait of Black Francis for MOJO Magazine, won the 2018 Sony World Photography Award for Portraits in the Professional Category for The Last of the Crooners, and was a winner in the 2018 BJP Portrait of Britain.

This is a unique chance to hear directly from Tom in an intimate Wex store environment, with the opportunity to discover how he approaches portraiture, subject connection, lighting, composition, storytelling and professional workflow. Whether you are building your confidence with portrait photography, looking to develop your own visual style, or interested in how Sony Alpha cameras and lenses perform in a professional portrait environment, this session is designed to inspire, inform and give you practical insight to take into your own photography.

Customers will get the chance to hear the thinking behind the images, not just the technical settings. Tom will talk about how he builds trust with subjects, finds the right visual approach, works under pressure, and creates portraits that feel honest, memorable and full of character. A Sony expert will also be in store from 10am - 2pm with a selection of Sony cameras & lenses.

This event is free to attend, but spaces are strictly limited. Each seminar session is limited to just 15 tickets, creating a more personal and engaging experience for those attending.

Due to the exclusive nature of the event and limited store capacity, advance booking is essential. Please book one session only to allow as many customers as possible the opportunity to attend. Spaces are expected to fill quickly, so early booking is recommended.
