Experience the techniques of Musashi in a unique and immersive way in this full day (8h) workshop led by Menkyo Kaiden Kishikawa Sensei
About this Event

Experience what combat really looked like among Samurais and embrace the spirit of its most famous warrior, Myamoto Musashi!

In this event you will have the opportunity to experience the techniques of Musashi's Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu ("Two swords style") in a unique and immersive way in this one-day, 8 hours workshop led by Sensei Jorge Kishikawa, Menkyo Kaiden (Grand Master).

After practising the techniques, you will put them into practice in a real Kenjutsu combat (fight with (bamboo) swords and protective armour): feel the rush and adrenaline that uncountable Samurais felt on the battlefield!

The sword was only one of the weapons mastered by the Japanese warriors: they also practised with halbards (naginata), spears (yari), wood staff (jo and bo) and unarmed combat. In this workshop, in addition to Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu, and Kenjutsu, you will also learn :

  • Jojutsu (the art of using a (short staff) to defend against a sword)
  • Iaijutsu (the art of quickly drawing a sword in combat)
  • Goshinjutsu (the art of self defence)

You will learn and practice techniques(katas) passed on for generations in each of these styles, acquiring at the end of the event an initial (but complete) view of what Sanurari's martial arts really looked like.

This event is designed for all skill levels, whether you are a beginner in martial arts or an experienced practitioner.

Can anyone participate? What do I need?

1. Due to the nature of the Workshop, you need to be 18+ to join. Individuals younger than 18 might join us in a case-by-case basis, provided they have a guardian that is also participating in the event: please contact us directly if you are less than 18 years old and would like to attend the event (see 'contact us' session below)

2 . You will learn Musashi's sword techniques, so it is essential you bring a 'practice sword':

  • Strongly recommended : Shinai (bamboo sword)*
  • Additionally to the shinai, it would also be useful to bring: Bokuto/bokken (wooden practice sword) and/or Jo (wood staff)
  • Due to safety, Metal swords will NOT be allowed: please do NOT bring them to the workshop

*If you would need to buy a Shinai, there are numerous kendo shops in the internet (such as Nine Circles in UK). We recomend size 39 for male adult, 38 for female adult

(note that due to the expected attendance volume, we will not be able to provide equipment for the attendees in this event. We might be able to help in a case by case basis, please contact us- in advance !- for more info)

If you did, you are in for a treat:
