And this isn’t just any guest teacher…
Sonya began her dance journey studying modern dance in Montréal, then went on to work professionally as a salsa and Latin street dance teacher. She discovered West Coast Swing through a salsa congress performance — and immediately fell in love with the freedom of expression the dance offered. 💃🔥
With her trademark intensity and dedication, Sonya trained hard, quickly rose through the ranks, and eventually took a huge leap — leaving Montréal for Europe to pursue her passion. From teaching at one West Coast Swing event, she went on to be invited to teach all over Europe, and along the way partnered with Stephen White to create several memorable showcase and classic routines. 🌎✨
What makes Sonya especially exciting to learn from is her approach to teaching. She believes great dancing comes from understanding what you know — and then having fun with it! 🎶
She is known for being technically precise, thorough, and structured, while also bringing a fierce commitment to personal growth both on and off the dance floor.
Today, Sonya works full-time to empower women in partner dancing to dance free. ❤️🔥
