Bigger, Better, Connected – The Evolution of Citizen Science in Purbeck
Michelle Brown, National Trust
(Hybrid event)
Abstract
Citizen science has come a long way in Purbeck over the last decade. Catalysed by the Cyril Diver Project, volunteer recording has grown from a local initiative into a vital component of landscape-scale nature recovery. The talk will explore the lessons learned along the way, from understanding the difference between citizen science and engagement, to prioritising data quality. It will chart how citizen science has evolved alongside the National Trust's ambitions for nature recovery, supporting partnership working and cross-boundary conservation across the UK's first Super National Nature Reserve.
