Survey a range of evidence for the mobility of ancient builders, from inscribed records to new lead-isotope analysis.About this Event
The designs of Greek temples, with their recognizable Doric and Ionic columns, spread widely in the ancient Mediterranean and Black Sea in the 6th and 5th centuries BCE. The dissemination of these architectural forms depended on highly mobile stone masons, who cross-pollinated design ideas as they worked far from home. Join us as Sam Holzman, Assistant Professor of Art & Archaeology at Princeton University, presents a talk that surveys a range of evidence for the mobility of ancient builders, from inscribed records to new lead-isotope analysis.
