This time, Track Notes is going back to 2001 with Usher’s 8701, an album full of love, lust, heartbreak, bad decisions, and R&B vocals that had no business being that good.
From “U Remind Me” and “U Got It Bad” to “U Don’t Have to Call,” we’re sitting with the album from beginning to end and talking about what made this era of Usher and R&B so memorable.
Track Notes is basically a Socratic seminar with wine. 🍷
We’ll listen to a few tracks, pause, take notes, and talk. Then we press play and do it all over again.
We’re getting into:
- The lyrics we understood VERY differently once we got grown
- Love, longing, heartbreak, and situationships before we even called them situationships
- The singles vs. the deep cuts
- Usher’s evolution as an artist
- What 8701 contributed to early-2000s R&B
- And, of course, the songs that still have us acting up 25 years later
Come ready to listen, laugh, debate, and defend your favorite track.
And yes, take notes. There will be opinions. 😂
