History of Knowledge’
Location: Room GC701, 7th Floor, Graduate Centre, Mile End Road, E1 4NS
Is knowledge possible without wonder? Might wonder be the key emotion, the key pleasure, which enables knowing? This workshop explores how wonder-making is important for epistemic cultures. How is knowledge wonder-full, the workshop asks, and what are the technologies (across media and genre, and including language-made wonders as well as other kinds) of wonder-making that have been important to knowledge-making? More broadly, the workshop is also exploring how, when, and where the history of imagination overlaps with the history of knowledge. The format is that conversation-starters across two panels will share 1-2 examples (10-15 mins each) and provoke discussion, with an emphasis on friendly and informal conversation.
