THICK
Cutting their teeth in the Brooklyn DIY scene, THICK has solidified itself as a punk powerhouse. Despite playing in fewer basements, the band maintains the vibrant sense of community that sparked its formation, inviting friends-to-be into their world through honest and introspective lyrics. Release after release, THICK fearlessly presents its members’ most intimate thoughts, experiences, and self-explorations in layered melodies and big hooks.
Big Girl
When searing punk in full saturated color collides with passion, friendship, and a signature mop of headbanging fiery red hair, it can feel like the distinct spark of revolution coursing through your veins. In a world that is constantly demanding that we comply, conform, and shrink ourselves, Big Girl asks over an insistent kick drum and peals of distorted noisy guitars, “are you hungry?”… “to eat billionaires?” In their recent EP ‘DYE’, the New York based four-piece find “ass-shaking” joy in a toxic wasteland. For all their purging punk energy, Big Girl embraces the absurd, understanding that laughing at the discomfort can take away its power.
Cotillion
As if we needed more proof that the term “Midwest Emo” has grown beyond its geographical location, NYC’s Cotillion sound straight out of Chicago on their debut heater “gm”. Effortlessly threading together “emo revival”-era guitar work with 2000s mall-punk hooks, Cotillion serve up a good old-fashioned bloody revenge anthem destined for both car stereo singalongs and solo bedroom crash-outs.
Stream “gm” everywhere October 9th.
