About this Event
The Summoning: Macbeth and Dido and Aeneas Music, Poetry and Choreography
What do the famous sorceresses and witches have in common? They have all been given a narrow version of what their behavior should be and they have all chosen to live outside of that narrow box. We learn at Calvary that even Mary Magdalen is aligned with sin in modern telling, but in her own time she was a successful business owner and wise enough to recognize Christ. How can we see these stories of misbehaving women differently? Can witches act for good? In this show, a mother saves her son's life with wit and famous witches perform the intellect and charms they are meant to hide
.In this staged theater event, the historic strings of Ensemble Gothic join five performers who enact a stunning series of poetry, choreography to superimpose the summoning of three famous witches onto the most chilling musical selections.
The result will yield thrilling connections to the witches of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Henry Purcell’s Sorceresses from Dido and Aeneas as each character emerges from the shadows.
