About this Event
When did you last stop and ask yourself: who am I? What do I value? Why am I doing any of this? These questions can feel overwhelming – and strangely lonely. And yet the anxieties, disappointments and uncertainties that sit behind them are almost entirely universal. People have been wrestling with them for millennia. The good news is that some of the greatest minds in history have already done much of the heavy lifting for us.
In this talk, Jack Maden – founder of Philosophy Break and author of The Philosophy Prescription – makes the case that philosophy is one of the most practical tools we have for navigating the life we’re actually living. Drawing on thinkers both classical and contemporary, Jack explores what philosophy can teach us about the biggest moments and questions of a human life: first love, friendship, work, money, parenthood, midlife, loss and mortality. Focusing on the question of “wondering what to do”, he considers how to approach the hardest decisions of our lives. Rather than offering a singular vision or a tidy set of answers, he invites us into the shared search – distilling complex ideas into something genuinely useful, and championing the value of sitting with uncertainty in a world that rarely encourages it.
Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
