About this Event
Join The Next Turn Lisbon for an afternoon celebrating craftsmanship and the people keeping artisan traditions alive, culminating in the Lisbon premiere of the highly-acclaimed documentary The Handmade Future.
Ahead of the screening, we’ll be hosting two hands-on workshops hosted by local makers.
Appliqué Workshop with Teresa Nunes
Textile designer Teresa Nunes will introduce the art of appliqué and show you how it can be used to mend, repair or simply give new life to clothing and textiles. Bring along a garment or textile piece of your own to work on during the workshop — whether there’s something you’d like to mend or you simply want to embellish it and make it your own. All other materials will be provided.
Embroidery on Photography with A Avó Veio Trabalhar
Join two of the wonderful avós from A Avó Veio Trabalhar for a hands-on workshop exploring the art of traditional Portuguese embroidery on photography. Using photographs as your canvas, you’ll learn how to work with thread, colour, texture and different embroidery stitches to transform an image and create a unique piece of your own.
Reserve your spot for one of the workshops via the Eventbrite ticket link. Limited spots available!
Following the workshops, we’ll come together for the Lisbon premiere of The Handmade Future — a documentary exploring artisans around the world and the role of traditional craft in our rapidly changing world.
The screening will be followed by a virtual Q&A with the film’s director, giving us the chance to continue the conversation around craft, creativity and what the future of handmade might look like.
