The Beach Boys and the California Sound
Hold that Christmas tree — let’s not start the holiday music yet! Come twist, shimmy and celebrate the music that defined the California sound when The Beach Boys burst onto the scene with their anthems about surfing, cars, girls and the California dream.
The driving instrumental sound of surf guitar brought reverb, tremolo and crashing waves of electric guitar into rock, heard in music by artists such as The Surfaris and The Ventures. The Mamas & the Papas brought folk-rock harmonies and sophisticated songwriting to the scene, while the sun-drenched melodies and layered vocals of the era helped pave the way for the softer West Coast sound that followed — artists such as Seals & Crofts and many others.
Featuring 4-time Coachella Valley’s Best Band winner The Gand Band, with Tod Macofsky rocking the vocals, Gary Gand on reverb-drenched guitar, Joan Gand on keys, and Lily and Larry Mitchell driving the groove on bass and drums.
Expect music from The Beach Boys, The Mamas & the Papas, The Surfaris, The Ventures, Seals & Crofts, and more, along with songs such as California Girls, Surfin’ Safari, California Dreamin’, Wipe Out, Walk, Don’t Run, Summer Breeze and California Sun.
Venue
Spirit Animal, located inside Hotel Zoso, is Take Five’s premium live entertainment venue — formerly Pretty Faces Nightclub and Sirocco — reimagined as a retro-inspired psychedelic supper club. Featuring state-of-the-art sound and lighting, comfortable table seating, and a non-smoking environment, Spirit Animal was built for immersive dinner-show experiences where music hits deep and the vibe runs strong.
