DESK SET (1957)
Directed by Walter Lang
Starring Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Gig Young, Joan Blondell, and Dina Merrill
Set during the bustling holiday season at a New York television network, Desk Set follows Bunny Watson (Katharine Hepburn), the brilliant head of a research department whose encyclopedic knowledge is put to the test when efficiency expert Richard Sumner (Spencer Tracy) arrives with a mysterious new computer. As rumors of automation threaten to turn the office upside down, professional rivalry gives way to sparkling banter, unexpected romance, and a little Christmas magic.
Directed by Walter Lang, Desk Set reunites one of Hollywood's most beloved screen couples in a witty, sophisticated comedy about love, technology, and the irreplaceable human touch. With its colorful midcentury offices, fabulous 1950s fashions, and memorable Christmas party, it's a charming holiday treat that feels surprisingly relevant nearly 70 years later.
