Vienna in the late 18th century was one of the most important musical centres in Europe, with composers like Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composing some of the most popular classical pieces in the classical canon. However, the city also played host to many other gifted composers, all of whom met and exchanged ideas regularly in Vienna’s many music venues. These included composers like Ditters von Dittersdorf and Johann B. Vanhal. One story goes that these four men regularly performed as a string quartet in Vienna’s many aristocratic salons. This concert celebrates this wonderful musical moment in European history, with a programme of works from what music historians have dubbed ‘The First Viennese School’.
This evening is made particularly special by being performed on instruments built by Maltese luthier Charlo Xuereb - unique handcrafted instruments of excellence.
All performers are young upcoming musicians studying in various music conservatoires around Europe.
Performers:
Samuel Cutajar & Kurt Falzon (violin)
Gordon Cervoni (viola) & Daniel Xuereb (cello)
