David Basse has been at the forefront of the music scene in Kansas City, taking the torch from such legends as KC pioneers Charlie Parker, Count Basie, and Jay McShann. Traveling the world , singing the praises of his adopted hometown, Basse has been compared to many of the greats. Whatever listeners hear in Basse’s well-seasoned voice makes them respond enthusiastically. Basse has hosted The Jazz Scene on Kansas Public Radio since the turn of the century. In 2009, he became a founding member of the cast of the nationally syndicated radio program 12th Street Jump. He went on to create Jazz with David Basse, in early 2013. Known asThe Depth and Breadth of Jazz, heard daily on the 8 stations of Kansas PublicRadio, and is now aired by more that 50 affiliate stations across the country through The Public Radio Exchange, www.prx.org. In 2022, Basse and the 21-piece City Light Jazz Orchestra were highlighted at theSunflower Music Festival, and he has presented a history of Kansas City Jazz for Swing University-Jazz at Lincoln Center.
