The YAO Academy and Symphony perform a diverse holiday program featuring music from Charlie Brown, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker.Vince Guaraldi’s score for the 1965 television special A Charlie Brown Christmas opens the program with its blend of jazz, warmth, and nostalgia. “Christmas Time Is Here” and “Skating” capture the quiet wonder and playful energy that made the music a holiday classic. Violin soloist Grace Wride explores Antonio Vivaldi’s brilliant solo writing, which helped shape the Baroque concerto.
Following intermission, the YAO Symphony turns to Tchaikovsky’s two great ballets. Selections from The Nutcracker bring toy soldiers, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and a glittering winter celebration to life. Swan Lake offers a darker contrast, pairing graceful dances with music of longing and tragedy. Together, these works create a journey from intimate holiday memories to the grandeur of the ballet stage.
