About this Event
The Red Line for Palestine Week of Action runs across Manchester from 7 to 14 November 2026: a week of campaigning, creativity, learning, and remembrance. The Art of Solidarity is how we close it.
One year on from the so-called ceasefire, Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank continue to be killed, injured, and displaced, while Palestine slips from the headlines. In that time the people of Manchester have marched, written, protested, and refused to look away. That matters - but now, this is the moment to take time to sustain our movement.
Not every political act looks like a march or a letter. Sometimes it looks like gathering in community, catching our breath and turning everything we have carried into something bigger than ourselves. This afternoon is a moment to regroup, to remember, to make and to find renewed energy to act.
Manchester's radical history is written in cloth, from the women who organised against slavery through their sewing circles, to the banner carried at Peterloo in 1819, to the Suffragette banner embroidered in 1908, declaring Manchester “First in the Fight.” For 200 years, Manchester has been a city that stitches what it stands for. When we craft together at The Art of Solidarity we join that story.
What we'll make:
Throughout the afternoon, we'll be making quilt squares and handcrafted paper flowers side by side, each one holding the memory of detained Palestinian health workers who kept caring under impossible conditions, and the children of Gaza, killed by Israeli forces in the genocide.
Every piece you make becomes part of something bigger. Your quilt square joins with others to form a collective quilt. Your paper flowers join a growing collection heading towards a wider exhibition. Each of us contributes something small and together it becomes something far greater than any one person could make alone.
Everyone is welcome. All materials are provided and no experience is needed. Whether you are a seasoned crafter or have never threaded a needle, this is a place for you at the table. Bring a friend, settle in for the afternoon, learn a new skill, and share conversation with others who care.
How the afternoon works.
We'll begin together with a welcome from Amira of Health Workers 4 Palestine, leading a panel on healthworkers in Palestine which will set the context for the afternoon and the people we're there to remember. From there it's pick your path: three craftivism sessions run side by side throughout the afternoon: quilting, led by Each Child a Light and Quilts for Medics and paper flower making with Amna Abdullatif.
