Garden day & conversation. Sacred Black Ecologies, our bodies, our health, and our liberation today.
About this Event

We're incredibly excited to welcome Dr Janine Francois, the founder of Sacred Black Ecologies, a transoceanic project positioning land, plants, water as ancestral memory and living archives across the Caribbean, West Africa and Britain.

Through conversation, we'll learn about Janine's work with Sacred Black Ecologies and explore what that means for our bodies, our health, and our liberation today.

There will be gardening activities in the morning and a community meal following the conversation in the afternoon.

About Dr Janine Francois:

Dr Janine Francois is a Black British feminist scholar, curator and cultural producer of St Lucian and Dominican heritage, whose work interrogates climate justice through Black feminist, and anti-colonial approaches. She is an Associate Professor and Director of Climate Justice at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. Her interdisciplinary practice bridges research, writing, curatorial inquiry and public engagement to explore the cultural, spatial and ecological dimensions of the climate crisis.

Janine has held curatorial residencies at London College of Communication Studios, Guest Projects Africa/Guest Artists Space and Hackney Museum, and is an Asiko Art School alumna. She has curated programmes for Tate Britain, the Victoria and Albert Museum, INIVA, Autograph, the Barbican, National Portrait Gallery and Library of Africa and the African Diaspora in Ghana.

About The Abeng Garden:

We're a Black women-led space dedicated to addressing health inequities through gardening, food growing, herbal medicine, and holistic health education.
