This year's event comes in two parts. You are very cordially invited to celebrate, commemorate or commiserate either or both. Feel free to choose! Both parts take place in York this year, and, as last year, I'm trying to give people as much notice so if you are able to do so and want to take part, you can start planning well in advance. Those of you who are already familiar with the concept of the 'Annual Challenge Meal' will know that when early November comes around, it will be that time of year again where I have to find an unusual or at least quirky cuisine or location for my birthday festivities! For my friends seeing this for the first time, the 'Tsakirides Challenge Meal' originated back in 2006, set by my friend Costas, who set me the task of trying to find somewhere out of the ordinary each year, either by cuisine or location!
Part I this year falls on my Byzantine Name Day, or, to put it correctly, the Synaxis of the Archangel Michael and the other Bodiless Powers of Heaven, a worthy reason to celebrate even if my birthday didn't follow on the next day! The location is the key to this, as the venue, the Dean Court Hotel has a view of York Minster, not something we've done before in the 20 years that this has been going on.
Some of us will have been to Vespers & Benediction at the York Oratory just next door to the hotel which you're very welcome to also come along to, but this is in no way obligatory! The service should finish at about 5pm so I'm proposing that we go to the DCH for drinks first, before eating at 7pm. This should hopefully work for anyone who might just want to come along for a drink only.

For anyone who doesn't live in York, the challenge is obviously to get here on the 8th November! I hope I've fulfilled my part by picking a venue with a view (the first time I believe.) As, always, please do let me know if you want to go.
