Agenda

🕑: 11:30 AM - 01:00 PM
The Art of Noticing: Keep the Weird Thing
Host: Feral Kitty

Info: As creative tools become faster and more powerful, it can be tempting to think creativity is about producing more: more sounds, more images, more words, more ideas. This workshop proposes something different: What if creativity isn't about having more ideas—but learning to recognize the ones already around us?

The Art of Noticing is a hands-on creativity workshop about finding inspiration in everyday sounds and discovering the possibilities hidden within them. The easier generation becomes, the more valuable attention becomes. Great ideas often begin with very little: three notes, one rhythm, one noise, one sentence, an accidental sound. Through listening exercises, experimentation, and hands-on music making, participants will discover what can happen when we pay closer attention, follow our curiosity, and give small ideas room to grow.

🕑: 01:00 PM - 02:00 PM
Playback Engineering & Career Pathways
Host: Timo Preece

Info: This masterclass gives a behind-the-scenes look at playback engineering as the hidden system connecting studio production to the live stage. Timo Preece shares real-world insight from touring, Ableton-based show files, vocal FX systems, routing, click and cue management, redundancy, timecode, and troubleshooting. Through practical examples and artist-session context, the class shows how playback engineers prepare, operate, protect, and communicate the systems that keep modern live shows moving.

Timo Preece pulls insight from his time working with live performance company Electronic Creatives as well as with artists like Charli XCX, Ariana Grande, and Troye Sivan.

🕑: 02:00 PM - 03:00 PM
Beyond the Laptop: Designing the Future of Electronic Performance
Host: Dan Freeman

Info: The laptop has transformed stages worldwide — but are we actually performing with it, or just operating it? This workshop explores what it means to be truly expressive and virtuosic with digital instruments, and examines why the laptop's role as four instruments in one (traditional instrument, sampler, sequencer, and effects processor) creates unique challenges for getting there. Dan will share his ongoing work developing 'Blinky,' a prototype instrument designed to close that gap, alongside practical discussion of grid controllers like Push and Move, approaches to building virtuosity on digital instruments, and Ableton session setup strategies for live performance.

🕑: 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Professional Applications of Max and RNBO
Host: Sam Tarakajian

Info: In this workshop, we'll look at how to use Max to build professional products. We'll focus on two specific applications: audio plugins and sound design for electric vehicles. Regarding audio plugins, recent developments in RNBO make it easier to build custom user interfaces using web technologies, which lowers the barrier to creating polished, high-engagement interfaces. For enhanced vehicle sound, Max's rapid prototyping environment makes it easy to explore and refine different sound systems. Attendees will learn patterns and workflows that they can adapt to their own work or creative practice.

🕑: 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM
