About this Event
tAngerinecAt is the project of Zhenia Purpurovsky — Welsh-Ukrainian producer, composer, classically trained multi-instrumentalist, poet and sound artist with 35 years of musical practice — and Paul Chilton, sound artist and multi-instrumentalist. Both are based in Wales. They met in Ukraine, where Paul lived for nineteen years.
This is not a concert. It is a ceremony.
GRIEF — their latest album, recorded in Eryri and released on their own imprint Annwn Records — conjures Welsh mythological figures as guides through collective grief and transformation. A fierce anti-war, anti-fascist statement.
On stage: a bell. A candle. A body in motion. Silence that has weight.
What the press says:
"Chilling and unsettlingly beautiful." — BBC Wales
"The triumph of art and the human spirit... It's all about the atmosphere, the tension and the spaces between the sound. There are moments of silence within the set when you can practically hear a pin drop. The lack of chatter between songs ensures the spell remains unbroken." — Andy Brown, Louder Than War
"Pulling you into what feels less like a gig and more like stepping into a ritual already in motion. By the end, it doesn't feel like you've watched a performance so much as you've been carried through one." — Shaun Histed-Todd, The Snuff Monkey Radio Show
"In the unique atmosphere of Stoke Newington's Old Church... standing together against division, with music as a unifying energy." — Blau Rosen
What audiences say:
"One of the most mystical and intense music experiences I've been to."
"Absolutely mesmerising from start to finish — sometimes I just closed my eyes and felt the music. Transportative, entrancing, utterly compelling. I will go and see tAngerinecAt every possible time I can."
"A fantastic concert — more like a ritual incantation, trance-like, a drumbeat of doom and delight, swathed in a mesmerising soundscape."
"It was like you were wearing the music as it washed over you."
"It felt like direct contact on a profound level. I experienced a literal passage through death." — Daria Zhdanova, Cardiff
"Thank you for coming to Scotland. You were absolutely amazing."
A fully independent, DIY project with a worldwide following earned track by track, on their own terms. Wave-Gotik-Treffen. Hradby Samoty. Mėnuo Juodaragis. Touring across the UK and Europe.
