At this year’s HKUK Carnival, we are delighted to welcome Winnie W., a London-based designer and author, for an honest, humorous, and thought-provoking book talk!
Winnie will share insights from her book, Why I Don't Say "Ni Hao": A Hong Kong Story in the British Diaspora. Beginning with the everyday stereotype of people in the UK associating Asian faces with “Ni Hao”, she explores the complexities of cultural identity, the preservation of Cantonese, and how stories of Hongkongers living overseas can be brought into the British mainstream.
The book is now part of the official library collections at Queen Mary University of London and The Open University.
Whether you’re looking for a sense of cultural connection, interested in preserving the Cantonese language, or curious about the journey behind independent publishing and book design, everyone is welcome to join the conversation!
Exclusive Offer
After the talk, Winnie will have just 10 copies of the signed hardcover edition available at a special market-only price of £9.99 (usual price £12.99) at her stall. First come, first served!
Already bought your copy from Amazon, Waterstones or Foyles? Bring it along for a signature and a chat with Winnie!
