Meet Basant Madhur
Basant Madhur is a distinguished tabla player, composer, and music educator, born into a family of musicians and trained under his elder brother Deepak Madhur and renowned Punjab Gharana maestro Pt. Pawan Kumar Verma.
Since relocating to New Zealand in 2002, Basant founded the Sargam School of Indian Music, where he has trained more than 500 students and helped nurture the next generation of musicians.
He has performed internationally alongside leading maestros including Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pt. Ronu Majumdar, Dr. Kadri Gopalnath and Pt. Raju Majumdar, as well as collaborating with artists across jazz, fusion and contemporary music.
His work has taken him across New Zealand and internationally, including performances and collaborations in India, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and the USA.
Known for his engaging stage presence and ability to connect deeply with audiences through rhythm and creativity, Basant brings both exceptional musical expertise and a genuine passion for sharing Indian music with others.
