About this Event
Songs of Reflection & Resilience began with a simple question: what might happen if songs from very different musical traditions were placed beside one another because of what they have to say, rather than where they come from?
The program moves through loss, longing, gratitude, impermanence and the difficult work of continuing. Vaughan Williams sits beside Jason Isbell; Billy Joel beside Adam Guettel and Stephen Sondheim. The connections are sometimes musical, but more often they are found in the words and in the ways one song changes how we hear the next.
There is no single story to follow and no particular conclusion to reach. The hope is simply to make some room for reflection, and for listeners to recognize something of their own lives in what they hear.
