What makes an ordinary autumn landscape feel unmistakably Canadian? The golden trees, quiet country roads, familiar farmhouses, and the beautiful contrast of autumn colours against the cool Ontario sky.
Join an emerging artist Louis Sobol for an inspiring workshop exploring the world of A.J. Casson, one of Canada's celebrated landscape painters and the youngest member of the Group of Seven.
Meet the artist behind the inspiration
A.J. Casson (1898–1992) joined the Group of Seven in 1926 at the invitation of fellow artist Franklin Carmichael. While many members became known for painting Canada's remote wilderness, Casson often turned his attention to the villages, farms, churches, and rural landscapes of southern Ontario. His carefully simplified shapes, clear colours, and thoughtful compositions gave everyday places a distinctive artistic beauty.
What we'll explore
- The beauty of Canadian autumn landscapes
- How artists use colour, shape, and light to create atmosphere
- Casson's distinctive approach to rural scenery
- How to create your own fall-inspired artwork with guidance from Louis
